At the present ti.llte, buffer drum block orders are done at the rate of a word every

64

IJ. seconds'. It is possible to increase this rate, on the anxi1jary storage section of the butter drum, to a word every 32 IJ. seconds, thus saving computer timeo

This change is complicated by the fact that the buffer section must continue to operate at its present rate. Therefore, i t will be necessary ~ modify.!!! programs using the bu:tfer section. -prograiiii must be changed so that the initial drum addresses for reading the various slots are as follows:

Progr_s using the auxiliary section of the butter drum need not be changed.·

The neeessary changes in drum circuitry can be completed in one installation day.· It is possible to do most ot the wiring without

affecting the system operation, allowing the actual conversion to be done in about one hour at some later time.
