This international conference is organised by the research project “L’accueil des nouveaux étudiant·es en Europe: comparaison France-Angleterre” (Welcoming incoming students in Europe: a France-England comparison), at the University of Lyon 2. It will broach transition to higher education from the standpoint of welcome practices for incoming students – both home and international students - implemented by higher education institutions, state agencies and private actors. This includes first institutional contacts - even before their enrolment - as well as the support and care needed for their institutional and intellectual integration afterwards. Researchers from France and England will pay particular attention to processes that hinder newcomers’ inclusion in the context of internationalisation, growing managerialism and marketisation of European higher education.
