Abstract

The micropaleontological study (Conodonts and Palynomorphs) of marls and calcareous marls from the Mufara Formation, exposed in the north-western part of Sicily, has permitted attribution of a Carnian age (Tuvalian, excluding Late Tuvalian) to this unit. Sedimentological analysis of the calcarenitic and calciruditic levels which contain Ladino-Carnian foraminifera has led to the interpretation of the limestone intercalations within the formation as being turbiditic in origin.
