SUMMARY
DISTRIBUTION OF THE POLLUTING LOAD OF SWINE MANURE ACCORDING TO ITS VARIOUS PHYSICAL COMPONENTS.
STUDY OF A SCREENING DEVICE
Using
a meansample
ofdaily
waste from apig farrowing-fattening house,
we determined andanalysed
the variousgranulometric fractions,
theseparation
of which was madeby screening
on holes from 4o to
800 and
forparticles
of smaller size than 40 (JL,by centrifugation
at 220o g(for
15mn).
It was shown that the
suspended
solidssupplied
a notablepolluting
load(COD :
80 p. 100; BOD :5 8
p.ioo)
and that thelargest particles appeared
in the COD and SS measures, but affectedonly slightly
theBOD,
and containedonly
littlenitrogen.
TheBOD,
wasmainly
relatedto dissolved or colloidal substances and to
particles

part
of thisexperiment,
we studied theperformances
of avibrating

type
Contiscreen(diameter :

Theoptimum operating
condi-tions of this
type
of screencorrespond
to a discontinuousfeeding

of a cake ofscreening

the role ofa
pre-layer.
This cake is then drained and evacuated afterstopping
of thefeeding. However,
too
high
flow rates orprolonged feeding
lead to obstruction of the screen. This
type
of screen eliminates3 6

SUMMARY
TREATMENT OF WASTES FROM PIG HOUSES ANNEXED TO CHEESE DAIRIES
Several series of measurements have been made in two
pig fattening
houses(i
600and
4000places),
where the animals were fedwhey produced by
aneighbouring
cheesedairy,
in orderto determine the volume and
polluting
load of the wastes. Anattempt
was made to relate theseparameters
to thefeeding
conditions of thepigs.
The
activity
of two waste treatment stations of thetype

treating
a mixture of wastes from the cheesedairy
and theneighbouring pig
