We are
presenting
the results of thehandling
of a wastedisposal
unit(aeration process) treating
a mixture of swine and cattle waste. This study was undertaken to obtain anacceptable
effluent and to
improve
theefficiency
of this unit. It was demonstrated that thefollowing
measureshad to be followed for a
good processing :
i) Screening
to retain nonbiodegradable
crude fibres(important
ifdairy cattle).
It is notnecessary to use too fine a screen as we found that there was
practically
non difference betweena qoo and 600screen.

Sufficientquantity
of water to obtain a diluted manure. In this unit, we found that the decantation was disturbed when over 9g/1
of totalsuspended
solids werepresent
in the oxidation tanks. With a maximumsludge
load of 35kg

the volume of water varied between 30
