UNIT 3A. EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND (E2U) AND SUBTITLING

Introductory Video Transcript

Hello.

I am a talking pencil. I wear blue glasses and white gloves and I have a pointing stick in my left hand. I will be your guide through the

introduction to Unit 3a of the EASIT project.

Let’s enter the classroom with beige walls and a window on the left. And let’s not forget the most important element: the whiteboard in front of us.

Unit 3A deals with Easy-to-Understand and Subtitling.

With a gentle touch of my pointer on the whiteboard the title of the first element of this unit appears. It is called “Processes.” In this element you will learn how to create, adapt and validate easy-to-understand subtitles in different scenarios.

The second element is “Linguistic Aspects.” Here we will work on the identification of significant information in an audiovisual text and how to subtitle by both organising and including information following easy-to- understand principles, and making lexical and syntactical choices

following the said conventions.

“Technical aspects” is the third and final element of this unit. Here you will learn in more detail about the application of subtitling principles,

guidelines, standards and conventions, as well as the use of subtitling software and applications.

These are the topics you will learn about in EASIT Unit 3A, supported by different tasks and videos.
