GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATES PARTIES TO THE

CONVENTION FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF THE INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

Item 2 of the Provisional Agenda: Election of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson(s) and a Rapporteur of the General Assembly

Resolution required: paragraph 4

1. According to Rule 3 of its Rules of Procedure, the General Assembly shall elect a Chairperson, one or more Vice-Chairperson(s) and a Rapporteur. As it did at its first session, the General Assembly might wish to consider electing in all six officers, one from each of the electoral groups. Their terms of office will be from the opening of the second until the third ordinary session.

2. At its first session, the General Assembly elected the following officers:

 Chairperson: H.E. Mr Mohammed Bedjaoui (Algeria)

 Vice-Chairs: Brazil, Ethiopia, India and Romania

 Rapporteur: H.E. Mr Faruk Loğoğlu (Turkey)

3. As at 16 March 2008, the following 93 States had deposited their respective instruments of ratification, acceptance or approval:

Group I Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway, Spain, Turkey

Group II Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Uzbekistan

Group III Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Uruguay, Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of)

Group IV Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, India, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Viet Nam Group V(a) Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia,

Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Zambia, Zimbabwe Group V(b) Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia,

4. The General Assembly may wish to adopt the following Resolution:

DRAFT RESOLUTION 2.GA 2 The General Assembly,

1. Having examined document ITH/08/2.GA/CONF.202/2;

2. Recalling Rule 3 of its Rules of Procedure;

3. Elects * * * (Name/State Party) as Chairperson of the General Assembly;

4. Elects * * * (Name/State Party) as Rapporteur of the General Assembly;

5. Elects * * * (State Party), * * * (State Party), * * * (State Party) and * * * (State Party) as Vice-Chairpersons of the General Assembly.
