ADULT GROWTH HORMONE DEFICIENCY

Préface :

“The basic tenet in endocrinology, that hormone deficiency should be replaced to restore health, also applies to growth hormone deficiency in the adult. This realisation has been brought about by advances in molecular genetics, recombinant technology, clinical chemistry, metabolic techniques and computerised imaging. These advances have rapidly increased our understanding of the causes and consequences of growth hormone deficiency in the adult, have improved diagnosis and demonstrated unequivocal benefits of treatment with growth hormone. These advances have introduced new, exciting and at times complex concepts across many fields including pituitary gland development, growth hormone structure, growth hormone receptor function, cellular mechanisms and metabolic regulation. How these impact on the clinical phenotype are beautifully captured in this CDROM on growth hormone deficiency in adults.

Professor Beckers has produced an engaging resource structured around an interactive platform which takes the user effortlessly through anatomy, physiology, aetiology, clinical manifestations and therapy. He has employed the latest in multi-media technology featuring superb graphics and video clips that are accurate and aesthetic. The product is comprehensive, well-referenced and is an invaluable tool for endocrine scientist and clinicians. It will stand out as a classic format by accomplishing the presentation of rigorous and complex scientific

information in a vivid manner.
