Reoognizing that small-soale industries, as now defined by the

seoretari~t to inolude manufaoturing enterprises with investment in maohinery under $50,000, oan make a substantive contribution to the overall industrial effort in At'rican oountries,

Reoognizing the role this sector plays in developing entrepreneursh~p,

in training skills, and in generating indigenous use of oapital, maohinery, and other resources within· the capaoities and capabilities of membe~

oountries,

Commends the initiative taken by the seoretariat in organizing the small-scale industries exhibition during·the period of this ninth session, in demonstrating the significance of small industries to the economies of African oountries, and in publishing a brochure on small-soale industries and a guide to sOurces 'of maohinery,

Reoalls resolution 156(VIII) whioh weloomed the establishment of a Pilot Advisory Centre on small-sc~le indus trills in Niamey for the West At'rican sub..,region,

Notes with appreoiation the services rendered. by this advisory oentre and the assistance it has received from friendly donor oountries,

Urges other UN agenoies in the field of small-soale industries and particularly the trNlpO and ILO to support and collaborate with ECA in the programme of wOrk proposed fOr the ensuing biennium;

Endorses the draft programme of work and priorities for 1969:"1970 with projections to 1973 in this field and particularly recommends the preparation of feasibility studies or "model schemes" for small-scale indust:des adapted to conditions specific to the African continent for the guidance of entrepreneurs and their disseminatiollt,h;t'oJ.lghnational.
