Foreword

The first « Journées Nationales Semi-Conducteurs III-V » were held in Aussois from January ^7th^to January 9th 1987. The

meeting gathered

¹⁸⁰

participants

from CNRS-Universités research groups,

public

laboratories

(CNET)

and industrial laboratories. The

subjects

^coveredthe main themes of this field and

emphasized

^its

pluridisciplinary

character : materials,

physical

mecanisms,

design

^andtechnology ^{of devices}

and circuits. It

appeared

clearly ^{that the}

meeting

^ofexperts ^onfondamental and

applied

aspects ^ofphysics

and microelectronics is very fruitful in order ^to

fully exploit

^thepotentialities of the novel microstructures and of the emerging

technologies.

This

special

issue includes a number of articles submitted to the ^«Revue de

Physique Appliquée »

^{in the}

framework of this

meeting.

The decision was taken late in 1986 which

explains

^that^somegroups do ^not contribute as their most recent results are already ^under

publication

^or^{will be}presented ^atthe Journées Nationales Microondes 1987. The large ^{number of}

accepted

papers ^covers^abroad field and is a

good

indicator of the research

dynamism

^{in this}^area.They will appear in ^twoseparate ^numbers^{of the}^Journal^for faster publication.
