LES ÉTRANGERS EN FRANCE.
La direction de l'Office du travail au ministère du commerce et de l'industrie vient de faire paraître le dénombrement des étrangers en France en 1891.
Ce travail considérable, qui ne comprend pas moins de 250 pages de tableaux de développement, est précédé d'une introduction fort intéressante contenant des ta- bleaux résumés, des diagrammes et des cartes au moyen desquels l'étude de l'im- migration des étrangers en France peut être faite sous toutes ses faces.
D'après ce document, le nombre des étrangers en France est de 1,130,211. Ce total accuse une augmentation de 750,922 sur le nombre des étrangers recensés en 1851, lequel s'élevait à 379,289, les deux sexes réunis.
Voici d'ailleurs le nombre d'étrangers relevé à chaque dénombrement à partir de 1851.

Par rapport à la population française, la proportion des étrangers s'est élevée de 1.06 p. 100 habitants en 1851 à 2.97 p. 100 en 1891.
Trois grands tableaux de développement par département sont consacrés au clas- sement des étrangers par nationalité, d'autres tableaux présentent la répartition des étrangers par profession.
