Urine marking is one of the most common behavioural problems in male dogs. Since it’s a testosterone dependent behaviour, deslorelin is presented as a possible alternative to surgical castration.

Deslorelin reduces urine marking and other sexually dimorphic behaviours similarly to surgery.
Deslorelin offers important advantages: easy administration, high security, reversibility, biodegradability and efficacy.

Deslorelin is a GnRH agonist that blocks the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis.
Deslorelin implant (Suprelorin®) administration to 39 male dogs with urine marking.
Follow-up through a questionnaire completed by owners for 6 months.

More research is needed, but the proposed behavioural study is a first step towards using deslorelin as routinely as surgical castration in the near future.
