13 Building “sustainable tourism” core competencies in destinations Corinne Van der Yeught
This paper presents the results of a longitudinal study carried out on three tourism destinations. They are all located on Mediterranean sites and they follow sustainable development programmes. The study is based on the theoretical framework of the resource and competence movement and on the stakeholder theory. It proposes to identify the determining factors likely to generate core competencies originating from sustainable tourism activities and shared within each destination regarded as a whole.

The case study helps understanding management, organizational and strategic implications of the development of business ecosystems.
89 The development of ecosystemic capabilities. The case of the emergent business ecosystem of mobile contactless services
Thomas Loilier, Magali Malherbe
The aim of this article is to understand how a business ecosystem can develop skills at the beginning of its life cycle. Our analysis is focused on the interorganizational level. We consider that the creation of the ecosystemic skills is the result of the ecosystem actor’s co-opetition. The case study based on the NFC technology highlights the key role played by the ecosystemic skills during the beginning of this business ecosystem. This study shows that there are three types of results about the types of skills, the role of the experimentation projects and the way of the skills are monitored.
107 When the leader’s domination contributes to the decline of a business ecosystem. Analysis of Symbian and Nokia’s role
Valérie Fautrero, Gaël Gueguen
Symbian is an operating system for mobile phones. Being the result of the collaboration of several phone manufacturers sharing a common standard, Symbian can be seen as a business ecosystem. The analysis of its evolution in the years 2000 shows a strengthening of the domination of its leader Nokia and a withdrawal of other co-opetitors involved. This article, based on the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative materials, aims at identifying the stages of Symbia’s life cycle in order to relate them to the leader’s strategy and to the other members’ implication.
