EUROPHYSICS LETTERS

Thanks to the enthusiastic and tenacious efforts of ^agroup of European physicists, ^anew fortnightly ^letters journal of the European Physical Society (EPS) « Europhysics ^Letters^»^will^bepublished from January ^{lst, 1986.}

This new journal results from the fusion of the ^«^Journal^dePhysique Lettres » and « Lettere al Nuovo Cimento ».

It will be published by ^the^EPS,the Italian and French Physical Societies which have donated their respective

letters journals, ând^theÎnstituteof Physics ^{which has}provided ânînitialworking capital. ^Thesepartners âre

supported by ^the^member^societiesof ^the^EPS,which have given guarantees of further capital, should this be needed.

It should be noted that the creation of ^thisnew journal will decrease the number of existing journals ^{and reduce}

the reader’s subscription charges.

The agreements between ^thenational societies will still enable the authors to submit brief articles ^to^theregular national journals. Thus from January lst, 1986, ^weintend ^toadd a Short Communications Section at the beginning of ^the^{« Journal}^dePhysique ».

« Europhysics ^{Letters »}will publish ^lettersof* high quality, ftom ^worldwideorigin, ⁱⁿall fields of physics. ^A

letter is a short and urgent communication ; ^it^shouldcertainly be understood by specialists, but authors will be

encourllged ^to^writeⁱⁿâ^manner^whichîsintelligible ^toâ^widerpublic.

Edition

The Editors, chosen by ^theÊPS,ârenominated for âperiod of ^threeyears with successive rotations in a steady

state. The Editors will have the full scientific responsibility of ^theirrespective ^sectorsⁱⁿphysics. Thefirst ^editorial

board is given ^{below :}

German or Russian.

Manuscripts~ can

^beaccepted from September ^{lst, 1985}

Four copies of ^themanuscripts ^and^oneoriginal of ^thedrawings ^{will be}required. ^Thelength of ^themanuscripts

should not exceed 3 000 words equivalent (abstract, illustrations and references included), ^whichîsâboutfour printedpages. Though âcertain flexibility ^will^be^retained,^we^will^not^considerânymanuscript exceeding ^{the limit}

of ^sixprinted pages.

Subscription forms ^{will be}circulated shortly by ^the^Editions^dePhysique. Any library subscribing ^either^to

« Journal de Physique ^{Lettres »}^or^to^«Lettere al Nuovo Cimento » will automatically ^receivenotification of ^the transfer ^mechanism.

Individual members of ^{the EPS}may subscribe at a reduced price, by ordering through the EPS Secretariat

or on the form provided ^whenpaying the annual membership fee.
