A p rè s a v o ir c o m m e n c é sa c a rriè re c o m m e lib ra ire , G érald C ra m e r (1 9 1 6 -1 99 1 ) d e v ie n t rapidem ent un galeriste visionnaire et l’un des éd ite urs les p lus im p o rta n ts de la deuxièm e m oitié du XXe siècle. À la re c h e rc h e du livre p a rfa it, il s ’ in v e s tit to ta le m e n t d a n s se s é d itio n s , so u te n a n t les a rtis te s , leur d o n n a n t pa rfo is des idées et devenant un fa c ilita te u r qui a m é n a g e d e s e s p a c e s p ro p ic e s à leur évolution. M êm e s ’il reste dans l’om bre, Gérald Cram er est souvent à l’origine d ’un livre, d ’une série d ’e sta m p e s ou d ’o b je ts . Son ce n tiè m e a n n iv e rs a ire e s t une b o n n e o p p o rtu n ité de m o n tre r la v a rié té d e s e s e n g a g e m e n ts , sa passion, mais aussi de revenir sur des m om ents plus intim es avec les a rtiste s q u ’il a soutenus. A insi, l’e x p o sitio n présente non s e u le m e n t d e s œ u vres q u ’ il a é d ité e s , m ais aussi des p h o to s p riv é e s et d e s œ u v re s d e s a c o lle c tio n ou dédicacées par de grands artistes co m m e Joan M irô , M a rc C h a g a ll, H e n ry M o o re , A le x a n d e r C a ld e r ou P a b lo P ic a s s o , en té m o ig n a g e d e le u r p ro fo n d e a m itié .

G érald C ra m e r (1916-1991) begun his ca re e r as a bookseller and becam e rapidly a visionary ga lle ry o w n e r and one o f th e m o s t im p o rta n t art b o o k p u b lis h e rs o f th e s e c o n d h a lf o f th e 20th century. In the q u e st fo r th e pe rfe ct book, he d evoted him self to ta lly to his pu b lica tio ns by supporting the artists, providing them with ideas and b e co m in g a fa c ilita to r w h o arra n g e d w o rk spaces conducive to th e ir developm ent. Even if he rem ained always in the background, Cramer o fte n in itia te d a b o o k, an o b je c t o r a sé riés o f p rin ts . H is h u n d re d th b irth d a y a n n iv e rs a ry p rovides an a p p ropriate o p p o rtu n ity to present th e w id e ra n g e o f h is c o m m itm e n ts a n d his p a s s io n , a s w e ll a s lo o k in g a t s o m e m o re in tim a te m o m e n ts w ith th e a rtis ts he h e lp e d. Thus, the exhibition will show not only som e of the books he published, but also private photos and w o rk s fro m his c o lle c tio n , o fte n d e d ic a te d b y g re a t a r t is t s s u c h a s J o a n M irô , M a rc C hagall, H enry M oore, A le xa n d e r C a ld e r or Pablo Picasso as te s tim o n ia ls to th e ir deep frie n d sh ip .

Nach A nfàngen als B u chhàndler w urde G érald C ram er (1916-1991) rasch zu einem visionàren G aleristen und einem d er w ic h tig s te n Verleger d e rz w e ite n H à lfte d e s 2 0. J a h rh u n d e rts . A u f d er Suche nach dem vollkom m enen Buch setzte er sich m it allen Kràften fü r seine Editionen ein, indem er die Künstler unterstützte, zu Projekten a n re g te u n d ih n e n a ls V e r m ittle r fü r ih re E ntw icklung g eeignete Ràume z u r Verfügung stellte. Selbst wenn er im Hintergrund tàtig war,

regte er hàufig ein Buch, eine D ru ckgra fikfo lg e o der eine O bjektserie an. Sein 100. G eburtstag ist eine g u te G e le genheit, die V ie lfa lt seiner Engagem ents und Passionen zu zeigen, aber auch intim ere, m it den von ihm u nterstützten Künstlern g e teilte M om ente in E rin n e ru n g zu rufen. So pràsentiert die Ausstellung nicht nur von ihm edierte W erke, so ndern auch private F otografien, S tü cke aus seiner Sam m lung und A rb e ite n , die ihm von b e d eu te n d e n Künstlern wie J o a n M irô , M arc C h a g a ll, H enry M oo re , Alexander Calder oder Pablo Picasso als Zeichen ih re rtie fe n F re u n d s c h a ft g e w id m e t w u rd e n .
