r e c e n t y e a r s I m p e r i a l O i l Company L i m i t e d h a s c o n c e n t r a t e d i t s a c t i v i t i e s t o w a r d s t h e west end n e a r t h e r e f i n e r y and power house. While t h e m a j o r i t y of t h e s e r v i c e p i p i n g ( s t e a m , w a t e r and s e w e r ) i n t h e I m p e r i a l O i l a r e a i s of r e l a t i v e l y r e c e n t c o n s t r u c t i o n t h e l i n e s s u p p l y i n g t h e 'tgovernment a r e a r t t o t h e e a s t , on t h e o l d Canol s i t e , d a t e from 1943-44.It was f o u n d , upon f n v e s t i g a t i n g t h e c o n d i t i o n of t h e e x i s t i n g l i n e s which would be s u p p l y i n g steam and w a t e r s e r v i c e s t o t h e new N a t i o n a l R e s e a r c h C o u n c i l b u i l d i n g s , t h a t t o r e d u c e m a i n t e n a n c e c o s t s and p r o v i d e e a s e i n f u t u r e m a i n t e n a n c e i t would
be a d v a n t a g e o u s t o r e b u i l d and r e p l a c e and i n some c a s e s abandon p o r t 1 ons of e x i s t i n g l i n e s and u t i l i d o r s ,
The I m p e r i a l O i l Company had, i n 195b1 c o n s t r u c t e d a new u t i l i d o r l i n e from t h e b o i l e r house ( a b o u t
