What are they doing?

Different games can be played using these cards. Be creative! The aim of these games is to have the pupils use the present continuous by playing.

Game 1: Ask and answer questions.

- Cut the cards. Pile up all cards (face down). Pupils work in pairs (or groups).

The pupil A take a card, show it to his partner and ask him/her the question

“What is he doing?” / “What is she doing?” / “What are they doing”?. Pupil B answers the question, then take a card, ask a question, … They take it in turns asking and answering questions. They can count the points. 1 correct answer = 1 point.

Game 2: Bingo.

Each pupil takes 6 cards. The caller (teacher) pulls out one image and describe it (say the sentence in the present continuous (“She is running”).

The pupils will then place pennies, rocks, fun foam pieces or something similar on the called image if it is on their card. Once a predetermined pattern is made on a card, the child with that card calls out BINGO.

BLACKOUT BINGO: All images must be marked to get a BINGO. This is the most common way to play BINGO

Game 3 : Miming game

Play in groups (4-5-6) or with the whole class. 1 pupil chooses/or pulls out one image and mime it. The other pupils have to guess what he/she is miming.
