PREFACE

The AI*IA 2014 Doctoral Consortium was organized with the aim of pro- viding a full-immersion occasion, for Ph.D. students, to discuss their ongoing research work, establish research connections with peer researchers, and receive first-class mentorship from domain experts.

The event included two main sessions:

– PAPER SESSION: The innovative feature is that Ph.D. students submit- ting papers were involved in the reviewing process of other submissions, thus providing a ’behind-the-scenes’ perspective of the workshop. This format was successfully introduced in AI*IA 2013 Doctoral Workshop1.

– IDEA SESSION: For this session, Ph.D. students were welcome to submit an abstract of their ongoing research work. Selected ’ideas’ had then been assigned a senior supervisor; on the consortium day, each of idea was dis- cussed in an open brainstorming, putting together the senior expert in the field and various Ph.D. students working on related topics.

For this edition, we accepted a total amount of 9 contributions, i.e. 6 regular papers and 3 ideas.

Our special thanks for the success of the Doctoral Consortium go to:

– the invited speaker Gianluigi Greco, for his enlightening talk;

– the invited speakers of the panel session (Marco Maratea, Francesco Ricca and Giovanni Semeraro);

– the chairs of the main conference (Salvatore Ruggieri and Amedeo Cesta) for accepting the Doctoral Consortium as an official workshop within AI*IA 2014 and for their kind support.

The DC chairs:

Luigi Di Caro, Carmine Dodaro, Andrea Loreggia, Roberto Navigli, Alan Perotti,

Manuela Sanguinetti.
