Dans la mesure où la veine
porte représente
la voieprincipale qu’emprunte
laplupart
desproduits
parrapport
au sang afférent(artère
mésen-térique) permet
une étudechronologique
etqualitative
intestinal.Il y a
déjà
un certaintemps qu’une technique
indolore deprélèvement
du sang par canulationpermanente
de la veineporte
a été mise aupoint
chez le Porc(A RSAC
etRÉ RAT , 19 6 2 ) ;
(K OLIN , i 95 z).
etquantitativement
lesproduits
de ladigestion après
un repas decomposition
connue administré enquantité
déterminée.Une
première application
a été réalisée surl’absorption
desglucides ;
unexemple
depoids
vif.SUMMARY
QUANTITATIVE
METHOD FOR STUDYING THE DIGESTIVE ABSORPTION IN THE PIG As theportal
vein constitutes the mainpathway
for the transit of most of thedigestive products after
theirresorption by
thedigestive tract,
the variation in the concentration of various nutrients in the efferent blood(portal vein)
incomparison
with the afferent blood(mesenteric artery)
makespossible
achronological
andqualitative study
of theabsorption. Moreover,
inorder to know the amounts of nutrients at the
disposal
of theorganism,
it is necessary to definemore
accurately
the variations of the blood flow rate in theportal
vein.Thus,
whenrealizing
aquantitative study
of theabsorption,
it is necessary to usetechniques by
means of which onemay, on the one hand obtain simultaneous
samples
ofportal
blood andperipheric blood,
andon the other hand measure the blood flow rate in the intestinal
portal system.
Some time ago, a
painless technique
of bloodsampling by
chronic canulation of theportal
vein has been
perfected
in thepig (A RSAC
andRÉ RAT , r 9 6z) ; recently
this method has beenimproved
so as toanalyse
the bloodcontinuously
with a Techniconapparatus,
either as concernssugars
(AU MA ITR E
andal., ig6g)
or urea and ammonia(RE RA T
andA UMA I TRE , 1971 ). Using
thesame
principle,
atechnique
ofpermanent
canulation of thejugular
vein makespossible painless,
continuous or discontinuous obtention of
samples
of thejugular
blood considered asrepresenta-
tive of theperipheric
blood.Thus,
at anymoment,
it ispossible
to estimate the arteriovenous differences as concerns the concentration of the various nutrients at the level of thedigestive
tract.
Moreover,
we have defined the modalities of atechnique
usedin
thepig
tostudy
the bloodflow rate in the
portal vein,
its variations and the factors liable to intervene(RÉ RAT , 1971 ).
Theprinciple
of the method used consists of the creation of amagnetic
fieldof
lowintensity,
perpen- dicular to the bloodflow,
and ofmeasuring
the variation in the electromotive force inducedby
the circulation
of
theblood,
variation which is related with the flow rate of the latter(K OLIN , 1952
).
With thisobject,
we used anelectromagnetic
flowmeter with epoxy flowprobes,
model K(Statham),
with aninternal
diameter of 12-14 mm,constituting
bracelets which can beput around
theportal
vein afterdenudation,
thelength
of whichcorresponds
to the width of theprobes.
When
using
thesetechniques simultaneously
and whentaking
into account the immediate variations of the flow rate and theconcentration,
it ispossible
toestimate, qualitatively
andquantitatively,
thedigestion products
after a meal of knowncomposition
distributed in deter- minedquantities.
This method was firstapplied
to theabsorption
ofglucides ;
table igives
anexample
of the variations inportal
andjugular glycemia
and variations of theportal
flow rateafter a meal of 50 g cerelose
given
to apig weighing
35kg.
