Young people out of school
Young people in Britain can use their leisure in a lot of interesting ways. Years ago, boys who belonged to the British schools «exploring society”, used to spend their holidays in Iceland, a country whose way of life was new to them.
Some school boys and girls used to spend two evenings a week running miniature firms. They used to make and sell such things as lamps, cushions and small tables, and so learnt how to deal with industrial and commercial problems.
Now, students, boys and girls spend their vacation helping old people without any payment. They paint their houses; clean their gardens and do shopping for them.
Others do plenty of work in hospitals, too. Helen and Mark belong to a special school where they will stay for about a month and get training in rock climbing, mountaineering , sailing and life saving.
These skills will make their lives more exciting and enjoyable.
