The Plains Indian Muséum will host

and the Country, London, England, July 3-6,1990. The programme will include papers on the theme in the history of different parts of the world.

The proceedings will focus on three extended sessions: 1) the rural past and the urban future; the country and the city in Populist and Progressive America 2) the countryside within the town; suburbs, new towns, garden cities, retreats and revolts 3) régions, cultures and societies; the impact of the metropolis. The Arctic: Canada and the Nordic Countries, Oslo, Norway, August 9- 12,1990. The third triennial conférence will be held at the University of Oslo. The theme of the Ail European Canadian Studies Conférence will be

The Seventeenth Conférence on the Application of Quantitative Methods in Canadian Economie History, Kingston, 9-10 November, 1990. This

is a working conférence whose object is to encourage the use of a wide range of quantitative and theoretical methods. The National Archives of Canada and the University of Saskatchewan hâve reached an agreement to transfer the archivai processing of the Diefenbaker Papers to the Diefenbaker Centre in Saskatoon. By spring 1990, ail sériés of the Diefenbaker Papers will hâve been transferred to the Centre. Public access to the papers will be restricted until ail processing and microfilming of the records are complété.

In addition to a sub- stantial amount of Lorne Pierce corres- pondence, the collection also contains material relating to Bliss Carman, Margorie Pickthall, Charles G.D. Roberts, and Edwin John Pratt. Manuscripts collected by Glenn J. Lockwood include drafts of his books, family diaries, photo- graphs and scrapbooks. There are also substantial records relating to Merrickville Citizens’ Band, the Rural Téléphoné Company of Kitley Limited, the Loyal Orange Lodge and Montague Township. The Archdiocese of Toronto, the University of St. Michael’s College and the Canadian Catholic Historical Association will hold a conférence to commem-

orate the 150th Anniversary of the Archdiocese of Toronto, Toronto, June 19-12,1990. Eighteen scholars will présent original research papers relating to the history of Catholics in the Toronto area.
