6. Adoptionof the Minutes of 28 May 2000
Dr. Gaffield asked for a motion to adopt the minutes of the2000Annual General Meeting. Moved. Seconded. Adopted. 7. Call for Nominationsfor Vice-President
Dr. Gaffield calledfor any additional nominationsfor Vice-President. There were none. As a resuit, Dr. Gerald Friesen will beacclaimed as Vice-President for 2002-2003.
8. President’s Report
Dr. Gaffield displayed an overhead listingthe many volunteers who workfor the CHA. He thanked them for their time and commitmentto theAssociation.
Dr. Gaffield thanked outgoing Councilmembers, Cynthia Neville,Ian McKay, Peter Baskerville andPast-President,
IrvingAbella, for their 3-year commitment. HethankedJoanne Mineaultand MarielleCampeaufortheirdedicationto the Association,to maintaining an efficient office in Ottawa.
Dr. Gaffieldexplained thatin 2000-2001 the CHA undertook an ambitiousAction Plan. While not everythingwas accomplished, the CHA achieved most ofits goals.
The 1999 and 2000 volumes of the Journal ofthe Canadian Historical Association will appear inJune 2001.
The CHA Web site has moved to a new location: www.cha-shc.ca. Under the leadership of DonFyson, Directorof Web Development for the CHA, the CHAis moving towards on-lineregistration and a "shopping-cart" modelforthepurchase of CHAproducts (booklets, journals, etc.)

Thisyear the CHAwill introduce a new featureinits annualprogramme. ThePrésidentsRéception will alsoserve as a Gala where CHA prize winnerswill be announced and fêted. He thanked Cynthia Neville fororganizing this event.The CHAwillcontinue to push the fédéral government to respond totheReportof the Expert Panel on Historié Census based on motions passed atthe Council meeting.
Under the leadership of Marcel Martel, the CHAis noworganizing the Clio Consortium, a lobby group made up of associations with a mu tuai interest in government policies and initiativesrelating tohistorical research.
Under the leadership ofPenny Bryden, the CHAis in theprocess of building a more effective organization of departmental chairs.
Dr. Gaffield statedthat the Graduate Students Committee has experienced something of a renaissance under theleadershipof Dominique Clément.
Dominique Clémentquickly debriefedthe AGM about someof the key activities—past and future—of the GSC, including the updatingof the TA guide and a forthcoming survey of graduate students.
Dr. Gaffield thankedIan Wilson andthe NationalArchives of Canada forits continuous support of theCHA. Rightnow the CHA and the NAC areplanninga fall 2001 conférenceon Privacyand Access toInformation.
IanWilson briefly addressed the AGMabout the manyinitiatives of the NA,including its expanded Website.
Finally, Dr. Gaffield explained that the CHAmustraise its membership fees. It is both a financialimpérative and a matter of investing in ourselves. However,the CHAdoes not intendto raise thefees for students, non-wagedorretired members.
9. Treasurer’sReport
Dr. DavidMoormantabled his report. Forthe fourth consecutiveyear, the CHAis runninga déficit inits operatingbudget. For 2000-2001 itwillruna déficitof$19 000.

10. Report of the NominatingCommittee
On behalf of the nominating committeeDr. Gaffieldstated that this year’s ballot was its report, and he thankedthe members for theirexcellentwork.

Dr.Vipond thanked Dr. Gaffield forhistremendousleadership this pastyear. Aswell, she pointed tosome of the forthcoming activities, including the CHA's 80thAnniversaryyear.
