• Chalk three upfor the Department of History atSt.Thomas University. Professor SheilaAndrewwas awarded the St. Thomas UniversityStudent Union Award for Excellencein Undergraduate Teaching. Professor BillSpray andlecturer Donald Wright were named toSt.Thomas Student Union Honour Roll forExcellence inUndergraduate Teaching.
• TheMcGill Institute forthe Study of Canada ispleased to announce the appointmentofProfessor TinaLooofSimon Fraser University as the second SeagramVisiting Chair of Canadian Studies for 1997-1998. Her appointment fulfils the Institute’splanto add a Western dimensionto thestudy of Canadaat McGill. Inthewinter of 1997-1998, ProfessorLoo will also deliverthe Seagran Lecture inCanadian Studies.
• Greg Kealey is the newdean of graduate studies atMemorial University.
• Terrence Murphy of Memorial University hasbeenawarded the 1997George Edward ClerkAward by theCanadian Catholic HistoricalAssociation.
•Lisa Dillon of the Universityof Minnesota will now chairthe CHA Committee on Computing andHistory. Shewill be assisted by John Lutz (Victoria) and DonaldFyson (Laval).
• Le Groupederecherchesur l’histoire de Montréal fête cette année ses25 ans d’existence. L’événement sera souligné à l’automne prochain. Al’initiative du Comité étudiant de l’institut d’histoire del’Amérique française, et plus particulièrement de OllivierHubert,sonreprésentant, une réunion des associations étudiantes des différents départe - ments d’histoire du Québec a eu lieu à l’UQAMle 4 avril dernier dans le butde créer une Fédération québécoise des associations universitaires des étudiants-e-s enhistoire. La Fédérationvise àétablirunlienentreles étudiants-e-s des trois cycles universitaires età répondre aubesoin d’informationd’ordre universitaire (programmes d’études, recherches en cours,etc.) et professionnel (perspectives d’emplois, etc.). Un comité sepenchera cet été surla structure de cette nouvellefédération et une consultation auprès de l’ensemble des associations étudiantes aura lieuà l’automne.
