The International Committee of
Historical Sciences
The International Committee ofHistorical Sciencesis current- ly planning its 19th International Congress to be held in Oslo, August6-13, 2000. The CanadianHistorical Association’s com mittee forthisCongressinvitespotential Canadian participants to send their proposais for the various sessions listed below.
Afull day willbe devoted to the threemajorthèmes. A half day will be devoted to specialized thèmes, somerunning concurrent- ly. At these summaries, regular papers will be presented. Ahalf day willalso be devoted to roundtables of four participants fol io wed by debate.
Proposais should be 200-300 words in length, accompanied by acurriculumvitae. Suggestions for full panels shouldincludepar ticipants from other countries besides Canada. Individual pro posais, ifapproved, will be sent to the chairs of the various ses sions for possible inclusion.
Proposaisshould be sent tothe chair ofthe Canadian commit tee: James A. Leith, Department of History, Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, K7L 3N6, tel: (613) 545-2150; (613) 545-6298. The committee of five historians will rank the proposais before sendingthem totheICHS.
The deadline for proposais is March 31, 1998. Overall 500 contributions from ailcountries will be chosen. Fourto six thou- sand people are expected to attend.

Le Congrès international
des sciences historiques
Le Comité international des sciences historiques planifie présentement son XIXe congrès international qui se déroulera à Oslo, du6au 13 août del’an2000. Lecomité-liaisondelaSociété historique du Canada invite tous les Canadiens intéressés à lui envoyer des propositions de communication sur les sujets énumérés ci-dessous.
On consacrera une journée entière à trois thèmes majeurs et une demi-journée à des thèmes spécialisés dont plusieurs seront débattus simultanément;des résumésde communications y seront présentés. Une demi-journée est également prévue pour des discussions et des tables rondesde quatre experts.
Les propositions de communication ne doivent pas dépasser 300 mots et doivent être accompagnées d’un curriculum vitae. Ceux qui proposent des séances complètes doivent y inclure des participants del’extérieur du Canada. Les propositions individu elles, si elles sont approuvées, seront envoyées auxprésidents des différentes séances, qui décideront de les inclure ou non dans le programme.

Téléphone : (613) 545-2150 ou 545-6298. Un comité de cinq historiens évaluera les propositions avant de les faire parvenir au Comité international des sciences historiques.
La date de tombée pour faire parvenir les propositions est le 31 mars 1998. Quelque 500 communications de tous les pays serontretenues. De 4000 à 6000congressistes sontattendus.
