5.3 Utilisation de l’entre-rang pour faire la détection des mauvaises herbes dans le maïs

La détection en temps réel avec un appareil photo numérique devient donc possible dans les cultures de maïs et de soya tolérants à un herbicide non-sélectif. Il faudra maintenant valider qu’elles puissent être les économies possibles d’herbicide en utilisant l’entre-rang pour estimer le recouvrement des mauvaises herbes sur le rang. L’amélioration des techniques de détection des mauvaises herbes en temps réelle permettrait de faire l’application localisé et de diminuer les volumes d’herbicides appliqués, d’améliorer les méthodes de pulvérisation pour permettre une gestion plus économe et responsable de l’utilisation des herbicides (Miller, 2003).

De plus ces techniques amélioreraient les connaissances de la distribution spatiale et temporelle des mauvaises herbes dans un champ permettant ainsi de mieux évaluer les méthodes de luttes utilisées et les adapter. L’avenir pourrait être une application d’herbicide sur une très petite surface, à l’échelle de la feuille d’une mauvaise herbe, limitant les pertes dans l’environnement.
