In conclusion, by combining behavioral and neuroimaging approaches, this thesis provides important insights into the cognitive and brain mechanisms underlying visual learning. In particular, the results obtained in functional MRI points out a crucial role for the hippocampus in visual representation formation, for both 3D-objects and faces. Interestingly, we observed that allocating attention since encoding was essential to allow the creation of abstract memory traces. Finally, this work could also suggest that sleep is crucial to consolidate memory traces and especially to make human’s brain more resistant to misleading information.
