Verificou-se que os grânulos formados no reator alimentado com glicose possuíam tamanho relativamente pequeno (1,0 mm), com característica densa e regular, com elevada presença de bactérias filamentosas no sistema.
A granulação com uso da glicose como substrato levou 45 dias para ocorrer. Valor próximo aos encontrados na literatura (LI et al., 2008; WANG et al., 2004).
Foram obtidas boas eficiências de remoção de matéria orgânica (> 85%) e nitrogênio amoniacal (> 80%) e baixa eficiência de remoção de fósforo (< 20%).
A degradação de substratos orgânicos relativamente complexos, como carboidratos, é um processo de várias etapas que envolvem vários grupos de intermediários de degradação, necessitando da participação de um grupo relativamente extenso de microrganismos, o que pode prejudicar os grânulos aeróbios, os quais são reportados por possuírem um grupo seleto de microrganismos de baixo crescimento.
