in spite of a decline in their share• The share of these countries in total experts of Africa declined from 68.5 per cent during

1955-59, to 64.2 per cent during 1965-69 and to 61.3 per cent in 1970-73. The corresponding share of Japan increased from 1.1 per cent to 3.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent over the sarne sub periods. The corresponding share of centrally planned economies (including China) increased from 5.1' per cent to 6.6 percent to 7.2 per cent 'over the same sub periods. See Table IV. 9.

It is significant to stress here that the corresponding share of intra African trade in total experts of Africa accounted for an insignificant and a declining percentage over the last decade. It increased from 5.8 per cent in 1955-59 to 6.3 per cent during 1960-64 and then deolined to 4.9 percent in 1970-73. See Table IV.9.

The srnall share of intra African trade in total experts 0f Africa, is partly a reflection of the low stage of development of African economies, being essentially producers of primary commodities, in many cases. exporting similar and competitive products, and partly institutional difficulties concerning the marketing and distribution of experts.

With regard to the sources of Africa's import trade, however, there are sorne significant changes• The share of the E.E.C. and E.F.T.A. countries in the imports of Africa declined from 84 per cent in 1955-59 to 52.2 per cent in 1970-73. While the share of JapJn increased from 6 par cent to 11.5 per cent, and that of the oentrally planned economies from 3.9 percent to 8.7 percent over the same period. Intra Afrioan imports, still remain to account for an insignificant and declining share of total imports of Africa, 4.8 ~er cent in 1955-59, 6.8 per cent in 1955-59, 4.8 per 0ent in

1970-73.
