SEVENTH REPORT OF THE LEGAL COMMITTEE

The Legal Committee, at its sixth meeting, examined at the request of the Assembly the paper submitted by the United Kingdom delegation"1", containing suggestions as to the term of office of the Chairman of the Executive Board.

After a discussion of the legal aspects of the suggestions contained in this paper, the various proposals put forward in Committee were put to successive votes. As a result the majority of the Committee was in favour of transmitting the suggestions put forward by the United Kingdom delegation to the Executive Board for consideration.

The Legal Committee therefore recommends to the Assembly the adoption of the following resolutions

YfflEREAS the delegation of the United Kingdom in the paper submitted on 25 June»1948 has suggested that any recommendations frem the World Health Assembly to the Executive Board might

include the following:

"The Chairman of the Executive Board shall be elected each year'at the first regular meeting of the Executive Board after its annual reconstitution by the World Health Assembly."

"The Chairman shall hold office until his successor is elected and shall not become eligible for re-election . until two years have elapsed since he ceased to hold

office."

THE FIRST WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY TRANSMITS this recommendation to the Executive Board for consideration.
