Repas :
lors dechaque
repas, il seproduit
uneaugmentation plus
ou moinsmarquée
du débitde la veine
porte (entre
7 et 20p. 100parrapport
au débitenregistré
aurepos).
- Poids vif : le débit moyen d’une
journée augmente
avec lepoids
vif del’animal ;
il semble rester constantlorsqu’on l’exprime
en fonction dupoids
vif.-
Variation
individuelle : onenregistre
etR!xwx, r 9 62).
SUMMARY
STUDY OF THE VARIATIONS IN THE FLOW RATE OF THE DIGESTIVE PORTAL SYSTEM IN THE PIG
A method for
studying
the blood flow rate in theportal vein,
its variations and the factors liable to interfere has beendeveloped.
Theprinciple
of the method used consists of the creation of amagnetic
field of lowintensity, perpendicular
to the bloodflow,
andmeasuring
the variation in the electromotive force inducedby
the circulation of the blood. This variation isproportional
to the blood flow rate
(K OLIN , i 9 gz).
Anelectromagnetic flowmeter,
Medicon K 2000, wasused,
with model K flow
probes (internal
diameter : i2-iqmm).
These flowprobes
wereplaced
succes-sively
around theportal
vein of ioLa y ge
Whitepigs weighing
between 30 and 4okg
and main-tained
during
theperiods
of continuousrecording lasting
between 8 and godays.
A very
important
variation in theportal
vein flow rate and thefollowing
four factors gover-ning
these were observed :- Circadian
cycle :
theportal
flow rate is at a minimumduring
thenight
and at a maximumin the
afternoon,
the extremesbeing separated by
differences of 30 p. 100. Thepattern
of thecurve of the
daily
mean variation is modified when thedaily
number of mealschanges.
- Meal : a more or less
pronounced
increase of theportal
vein flow rate occurs at each meal(between and
20 p. 100 incomparison
with the flow rate recorded betweenmeals).
- Live
weight :
thedaily
mean flow rate increases with the liveweight
of theanimal ;
it seems to remain constant whenexpressed
in relation to the liveweight.
- Individual variation :
daily recordings
of the flow rate show differences from one animal to another between 4oml/kg/mn
and 55ml/kglmn.
These studies show that the flow rate of the
portal
vein cannot beprecisely predicted,
eitherfrom the live
weight
of the animal or from the time ofday. Thus,
thequantitative study
of theabsorption
of nutrientsrequires
the simultaneous use of thetechnique
described here and of thetechnique
ofportal
bloodsampling previously
described(A RSAC
andRÉ RAT , 19 6 2 ).
