II CONFERENCE OF DOCTORAL STUDIES OF ART AND MUSICOLOGY 2021

The legacy of the Arts: ideas and representations. The transmission of knowledge through tradition, orality and Academia.

The second edition of the Conference on Doctoral Studies in Art and Musicology focuses on research on the transmission of knowledge through the arts as a means and source of knowledge in the artistic world.

The images and musical documents that have been preserved from ancient times to the present day - throughout the world - have made it possible to understand aspects of the social, cultural and religious life of many civilizations and also to be the same reflection of these.

In this way, Art and Music, as resources, have been one of the key elements to be able to understand a culture since it has been the mechanism through which humans have been able to capture and transmit ideas and knowledge. Representations in architecture, sculpture, ceramics, weaving, literature and others are manifestations of the social, political and cultural processes experienced throughout the history of humanity. On the other hand, we can see how often the imagination and creative developments of our thinking have been able, through the ages, to delineate new paths of knowledge and training from irrational elements ignored by canonical training and education courses, feeding innovative lines of popular culture and traditions.

Thus, artistic knowledge has been part of the social and cultural spheres in different populations, which have been transmitted from generation to generation through

observation and direct practice within a social context, allowing perpetuity throughout life. story.

On the other hand, the academy has also had a role in the transmission of knowledge, under other teaching, communication and knowledge transfer schemes, in which technical, theoretical and practical aspects have been related, in various cultural settings and contexts.

The transmission of artistic knowledge, related to image and sound, has provided each culture with an idiosyncratic seal of identification and expression. In addition, it is interesting to see how, despite talking about cultural diversity and different historical moments, there is a link between the different processes of knowledge from ancient times to the present day. It is a cross-cutting theme in which different disciplines have space.

- Reasoning and reviewing the texts that speak of art and music as a means of transferring knowledge;

- Identify and reflect on the means of transmission of artistic and musical knowledge, from oral tradition to the Academy, in various contexts;

- Study the diversity of knowledge transmitted from art and music, relating it to the mechanism used for its transmission;

- Analyze and / or compare the different artistic and musical processes that have carried out different artistic panoramas, within different geohistoric and spatial contexts.

- Reflect on what knowledge has reached us and how, so that today the different forms of artistic expression remain valid.
