Riemannian metrics, isometries

Exercise 1 (Standard metrics). Letg0 denote the standard Riemannian metric on Rn, that is for allx∈Rn,(g0)x is the standard Euclidean inner product.

1. Are the translations isometries of(Rn, g0)? Define a natural Riemannian metric on the flat torus Tn=Rn/Zn.

2. Leti:Sn→Rn+1 denote the canonical inclusion, we setg=i(g0). Do elements of the orthogonal group On+1(R) induce isometries of (Sn, g)? Define a natural Riemannian metric on the real projective space RPn.

Exercise 2 (Dimension 1). 1. LetM be a connected smooth manifold without boundary of dimension 1. Are any two Riemannian metrics on M conformal to one another?

2. Same question if dim(M)>2.

3. What are the connected Riemannian manifolds without boundary of dimension1up to isometries?

Exercise 3(Hyperbolic spaces). LetB=−dx0⊗dx0+dx1⊗dx1+· · ·+dxn⊗dxndenote the standard Lorentz form onRn+1. Let Hn denote the set {x ∈Rn+1 |B(x, x) =−1, x0 > 0}.

We also denote byHn the half-space {x∈Rn|xn>0} and by Dn the unit open ball in Rn. Prove that the following are Riemannian manifolds that are isometric to one another:

• Hn endowed with the restriction of B,

• Hn with the metric 1

• Dn with the metric 4

Exercise 4 (Hyperbolic half-plane and Poincaré disc). In this exercise, we simply denote by Hthe hyperbolic half-planeH2 and byD the hyperbolic discD2 (also calledPoincaré disc).

1. Check that conformal diffeomorphisms of D (resp. H) preserving the orientation are biholomorphisms.

2. Describe the conformal diffeomorphisms ofD(resp.H). Which one are isometries?

Besides the geometric analysis, an important role in our study is played by the Hampath code [12], which allows the explicit numerical computation based on the evaluation of

On an n-dimensional connected Lie group the simplest ARSs are defined by a set of n − 1 left-invariant vector fields and one linear vector field, the rank of which is equal to n on

This result is optimal in terms of Hôlder conditions, i.e. At least it is quite obvious that we cannot expect more than C1,l in general, as the following example

A closer analysis of the action of the Killing vector fields on the space of Killing spinors allows us nevertheless to state a splitting theorem in dimension 7, and to deduce that I
