L'explosion de l'usine AZF en 2001 a amené une refonte de la prise en compte du risque
technologique à l’échelon national. Les territoires comprenant des établissements « SEVESO Seuil Haut » doivent faire l'objet de Plans de Prévention des Risques Technologiques (PPRT).
Dans l'Aude, quatre PPRT ont été prescrits, et trois ont été, ou vont être, approuvés en 2012.
