Ces journées visent à amorcer un dialogue entre chercheurs nord-américains et cher- cheurs francophones dans le domaine de l’argumentation. Les intervenants ont été sollicités sur la base d’un intérêt partagé pour la dimension descriptive des études en argumentation. Quels que soient les cadres théoriques dans lesquels s’inscrivent leurs approches de l’argumentation, et quelle que soit l’importance qu’y prend la préoccupation normative, ils considèrent que l’adossement à des données et l’entreprise de description d’argumentations authentiques sont au cœur des études en argumentation. Ils prêtent ainsi une attention soutenue aux mécanismes langa- giers et aux processus interactionnels constitutifs de l’activité argumentative.

Les deux journées se tiendront exclusivement en anglais.

The workshop seeks to initiate a dialogue between scholars from North America and their French speaking colleagues working in the field of argumentation. The invited speakers share an interest in the descriptive and empirical dimension in the study of argumentation. Irrespective of the theoretical framework within which each of the participants studies argumentation and the importance they may ascribe to norma- tive considerations, they all agree that the study of empirical data and the descrip- tion of real life argumentation are at the heart of argumentation studies. As a result, each of the invited speakers, in their respective work, pays attention to the linguistic mechanisms and to the interactional processes that characterise argumentative acti- vity. The language of the workshop will be English.
