Sur les 234 communes identifiées dans le Document Départemental des Risques Majeurs ayant un risque inondation, 133 ont un PPRI approuvé. D'ici 2015, ce sont 90% de ces communes qui auront un PPRI.
La tempête Xynthia (2010) a montré la nécessité de prendre en compte le risque "submersion marine". Quatre communes audoises ont été déclarées comme prioritaires pour l'établissement d'un PPRI Submersion Marine.
