Madam Chairman, my only opening remarks would be to introduce the estimates and to say to the members of this committee that it is the first year that we have had the oppor- tunity of coming before the health committee as an estimates committee.

The estimates as printed are for $866,950,000. I think we can have a very fruitful dis- cussion of each item as we go through. Apart from that, I will reserve all my comments for the discussions as we move through the estimates.
