BrendelFor the fourth time, the Inclusion International Network (I.INT) held its annual workshop meeting. This
year,young
researchers(phD
candidates andpost-docs)
got together at theUniversity
of Luxembourg and discussed research perspectiveson human rights, inclusion and
education. The par-ticipants
continuedtheir
discussions and exchange ofresearch andpractical
experiences on inclusive educationfrom
the previous three meetings heldin Berlin
andHildesheim
since 2014.Workshop and Keynotes
During
the three days, 20participants
discussed outcomes, areas ofconflicts
as well as perspectives of
their
own researchwithin
thefield
ofinternational
and comparative research on inclusive education. This year, the network was glad to be able to welcome three experts in thefield
of comparative inclusiveresearch: Profs. BsNcr and
Er.rs.aBErH PERSsoNfrom Boräs University
(Sweden),Mrcnrrrn BnnNpsr and Prof. ]usrrN Powrr,r, from the Uni- versity of Luxembourg, and fuu.a. BrrnuaxN from the "Humboldt Uni- versität
zuBerlin".
Bpncr
andEI,rsesrrH
PERssoN discussed theimportance
to disseminate research experiencesin different
social fields, such as the academic, politics and among the
generalpublic in order to
createbroader
awareness andunderstanding
aboutinclusive
education. They also presented factorsfor
a positive inclusive education systemtransformation, which
developedfrom
a researchproject conducted in
schoolsin
Sweden.Furthermore, they
pre- sented atheoretical conjunction ofinclusive
education andsustainabilitf of
andin
society.Mrcncnr BnrNopr and |usrrx Powrr.r,
sharedtheir
experiences and resultsfrom the EU-funded
researchproject
,,Teaching diverse learnersin (School) Subjects (TdiverS)" (see material at website: http://www.tdi-

Lea Schäfer et al.vers.eu). They presented
exemplaryvideo
material that documentedinsights into
inclusive classroom practicesfound in
theproject's partner schooli in six different
Europeancountries.
Theaim ofthe project
wasto
establish atransnational network that provides support for inclusive school
develop- ment by sharing and analysing"inspiring practices" in inclusive
education.Furthermore, Julre.
BTEnMANN,an
advanceddoctoral candidate from
"Humboldt
Universität zuBerlin",
synthesized the outcomes of herdoctoral
thesis, aninternational comparison of Nigeria
and Germanyin
thefield of inclusive and
specialeducation.
She comparedthe diffusion of
924of
theUN-CRPD and its impact on educational policy and school realities by comparing the diffeient socio-cultural contexts of Nigeria and
Germany. This comparison highlighted the different influences concerning the im- plementation
ofinclusive
educationwithin
specificcultural
contexts.Leveraging the interests and knowledge of the
participants,
fivethematic
sessions were chosen and discussedby comparing different countries:
thehistorical
dimension of the UN-CRPDin relation
to humanrights; inclusion
as an overall and
ubiquitous
challenge;educationwithin
theUN-CRpD
andits underspecification; comparative
approacheson inclusive education in- ternationally;
and challenges andbenefits ofinterdisciplinary
research ap- proaches.Future
Perspectives
To perpetuate these valuable discussions and key ideas
concerning
research and exchange ofexperiences, thenetwork
met, asin
the previous years,for
anetwork brunch
on the last day. Ideas discussedincluded: participation in international
conferencesby submitting own panels; funding of the net- work;
broaderinternational
perspectives; and thelink
to other networks and conferencesand organisations in the fields of inclusive education
and comparative education. The main focus of the
final
dialogue was the idea ofapplying for
afunded
researchnetwork. The lead network organisers
LsÄ.ScHArrR,
ANoREasKöprnn
andRosnnr Ausr
set up a schedule toinvite
other researchersfrom
the networkto
develop such anetwork
researchapplication, starting from
afirst draft
presentedin
Luxembourg. The aim is tostart
a European researchnetwork in2019.
