Formes et Stratégies du Refus

Formes et stratégies du refus
Le concept de refus semble bien ouvrir deux axes sémantiques : la dimension relative, d’une part, où le concept est envisagé dans sa transitivité, c’est-à-dire en relation avec l’objet du refus. Dans ce rapport refusant/refusé, la nature même du sujet et de l’objet du refus varie selon l’espace et le temps, ce qui paraît inviter des approches de type diachronique ou générique. La dimension absolue d’autre part, où le refus devient une attitude en soi, un état d’esprit, un principe, une sorte d’impératif catégorique qui ouvre la voie à des études de type philosophique, psychanalytique ou encore politique.
Nous tenterons donc non pas tant de décrire telle ou telle révolte mais plutôt les termes d’une problématique du refus, le conflit qui au cœur d ‘une œuvre ou d’un discours, s’établit par rapport à une altérité. De nombreuses pistes pourront ainsi s’ouvrir dans des domaines aussi divers que l’art, la littérature, le cinéma, la politique, la musique, la philosophie, l’histoire, la psychanalyse et la linguistique :
- refus et dissidence : conditions et cheminement de l’entrée en dissidence.
- refus du nouveau au nom de l’ancien/ refus de l’ancien au nom du nouveau.
- refus et résistance : marginalisation de soi.
- Les stratégies et la rhétorique du dénigrement, de l’accusation et de la subversion : de l’objection simple au terrorisme.
- En psychanalyse : mécanismes du refus : refoulement et déni. Le refus entre Loi et Désir.
- Faire admettre l’inadmissible.
- Le refus comme intermédiarité (refus du monologisme), le refus comme confrontation de valeurs, comme entre-deux dans un processus de futurition.
- Refus comme liminalité, au seuil d’une reterritorialisation.
Bref, vers une redéfinition de la dialectique inhérente à l’altérité ?
Les propositions de communication en français ou en anglais (un titre et un résumé d’environ 250 mots) accompagnées d’une biobibliographie de l’auteur, devront nous parvenir avant le 15 juin 2010. Une réponse sera donnée environ un mois après. Durée des communications : 25 minutes.
Une publication est prévue de plusieurs des interventions selon les thématiques.

The concept of refusal is to be tackled here around two semantic axes: on the one hand, the relative dimension in which the concept is considered in its transitivity, i.e., in its relation with the object of refusal. In this interconnection between the refusing subject and the refused object the very nature of what is refused varies in time and space, which seems to encourage approaches and studies of a diachronic or generic nature. Considered in the absolute dimension on the other hand, refusal becomes an attitude in itself, a state of mind, a principle, a sort of categorical imperative which opens the way for analyses of a philosophical, psychoanalytical or political type.
What we wish to undertake is not so much to describe such or such a specific revolt but rather to examine the terms of the problematic issues inherent in the concept and in the conflict which takes place at the heart of a work or a document in relation to a form of otherness. Several analytical or hermeneutic directions might be explored in a great variety of fields such as literature, the arts, the cinema, political sciences, music, history, linguistics, psychoanalysis or philosophy:
- Refusal and dissidence: how and why does one espouse dissidence?
- Refusal of the new in the name of the old – or vice versa.
- Refusal and resistance – with an emphasis on the marginalisation of the self.
- Strategies and rhetorics of indictment, subversion or rejection: from simple objection to terrorism.
- Mechanisms of refusal in psychoanalysis: principles of denial and repression. Refusal seen in its relations to and in the gap between Law and Desire.
- Striving to have the unacceptable accepted.
- Refusal as in-betweenness, i.e., refusal of monologism, refusal as an axiological confrontation, as part of a process of becoming.
- Refusal as liminality, at the threshold of reterritorialisation.
In short, refusal is to be considered as a dialectical process, a strategy that is always already linked to the problem of redefining otherness.
A selection of papers will be published in a special issue of our review Cycnos.
The conference will take place in the form of workshops and three plenary addresses.
