Casablanca, 28 September 2015: The Economic Commission for Africa (Office for North Africa) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) are organizing, in
partnership with the Moroccan Cleaner Production Center (CMPP) a regional workshop on
Innovative Technologies for Waste Management in the Arab Region under the theme “Paving the way for the transition to a green economy in Casablanca (Morocco) on 29-30 September 2015.
During this workshop, participants will discuss key waste management issues, examine innovative technologies and identify potential areas for cooperation. Stakeholders including academics, experts, entrepreneurs, public institution and Green Help Desk representatives from various Arab countries will take part in this event.
Over the last few years, solid waste production has been on the rise in Arab countries and is expected to reach 200 million tons/year by 2020. This phenomenon has several causes including population and economic growth, urbanization, industrialization and changing consumption patterns, and has become a growing issue with adverse effects on the environment, the quality of drinking water and human health.
