Comprehensive Project Management (CENG 221 D1/D2)
Course Description:
This course addresses the fundamental principles of project management, and the tools and techniques at our disposal to help achieve our goals. These principles, largely developed and tested on engineering projects, are being successfully applied to all projects of all sizes and types within the business world.
• Duration: 26 sessions. Offered one evening per week from 6‐9pm.
• Location: McGill campus, Downtown Montreal
• PMI® Professional Development Units (PDUs): 160; Continuing Education Units (CEUSS): 16

Topics covered include:
• Project definition and start up
• Planning, scheduling and estimating
• Approval process, including testing for alternatives
• Project information and control systems
• Resource selection and allocation, implementation
• Post‐project evaluation
• Project management as a career
• Skills and knowledge required by professionals, including decision‐making and resource allocation appropriate to project phases
• Integration with other disciplines, including accounting and finance
• Includes basic training in the use of Microsoft Projects software for planning and tracking your projects
Course Lecturers:
Lloyd Bartlett, P. Eng., MBA, PMP
Lloyd Bartlett is a certified Project Management Professional PMP and professional engineer with some 30 years experience in managing projects on a national and international scale. He has developed, adapted and applied project management techniques within a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, IT, transportation and construction. He holds an MBA (Project Management) from Queen's University. He is a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (since 1976), and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). In 2008 he was presented with Continuing Education's "Distinguished Teaching Award”.
Robert (Bob) Abbott, MCPM
Bob is an experienced enterprise Senior Project Manager with over 30 years of Information and Technology experience within the telecommunications industry. Bob is a graduate of McGill University in computer science, and has his Masters Certification in Project Management from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
He has been a change agent in the development and introduction of new agile processes, procedures and collaboration techniques within various Information and Technology organizations. He has also designed and delivered various types of corporate training to more than 2500 managers on enterprise project tools, processes and techniques.
Dulce Oliveira, CBAP
Dulce Oliveira’s 20‐year career in IT has spanned project management, quality assurance and business analysis. Ms Oliveira has led project teams focused primarily on IT, including the successful delivery of projects in the year 2000 portfolio. She is one of the founding members of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA), a not for profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the Business Analysis profession.
Additional Information:
• There are no academic or language pre‐requisites for this course.
• Students are expected to have access to the internet.
• Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an attestation from the McGill University
School of Continuing Studies indicating the number of CEUs and PDUs earned.
