DESIGN FOR A RESIDENCE IN THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE STYLE.
The villas and gardens of Italy have
long excited the admiretion of those fortunate
Americans who have enjoyed the opportunity of sojourning in that beautiful country.
The Italian villa of the Renaissance
has come to have a peculiar value as an
archi-tectural type under contemporary American con-ditions which are repeating themselves in the
desire of our more fortunate citizens for life
in the country.
We seem to show a power to assimilate ideals, treditions and forms which have all the
freshness; life and color of their historic
sources across the water,
In the development of this design 1
have looked to the vest of the villas situated rostly in or near the city of Rome. Motives
have been studied from such charming examples
of this type as the Villas Medici, Albani,
d'Este, Pamphili and Borghese.
