"(6) A fire damper required in Sentence (5) or other fire damper used as a closure in a fire separation shall have a fi;e-prorrction rating conforming to Sen- tence (4).

"(7) A fire damper referred to in Sentence (6) used in a fire separation required to have a fire-resisrarrce rating of not more than 2 hr but which is not a firewall, shall be constructed and rated in confor- rnance with ULC 555 (1970), 'Standard for Fire Dampers'."

"(8) A fire damper referred to in Sentence (6) used in a fire separation required to have a fire-resistance rating of more than 2 hr, or used in afirewall shall be rated in conformance with one of the test methods in Sentence (I) for door assemblies." "(9) Fire dampers need not be provided in noncombus-

tible branch ducts that have a melting point above 1200°F (649°C) and penetrate a required fire sep- aration provided such ducts :

(a) serve only air-conditioning units discharging air at not more than 4 ft (1.2 m) above the floor provided such ducts :

(i) do not pierce a floor at more than one place, and

(ii) have a cross sectional area of not more than 20 sq in (1 29 sq cm) or

(b) are connected to exhaust duct risers in which the air flow is upward and such ducts are carried up inside the riser at least 22 in. (0.56 m)."

Delete and substitute:

"A door having at least a 20 minute fire-protecriori ratirlg, or a 1

in. thick solid core wood door, mounted in a frame that has been tested and rated, or mounted in a wood frame of at least 2 in. nominal thickness may be used as a closure in

(a) afire separation required to have not more than a 1 hr fire-resistance rating where such closure is located between a public corridor and a room or suite of rooms, or

(b) a fire separation required to have a

hr fire- resistance rating in buildings not exceeding 3 storeys in building height."

Add new Sentence (5) as follows, and renumber existing Sentences (5) to (8) accordingly.

"The requirements for noncombustible sills in NFPA 80-1970, 'Standard for Fire Doors', shall not apply to doors described in Sentence (4)."

"This Part applies both to site assembled and factory made buildings."
