A MESSAGE FROM FATHER RETAR…
Dear Friends,
I
am happy to announce that Fr. Don Bosco Darsi will be back with us for the summer. He is scheduled to arrive someme Monday, July 8th and depart on August 30th. He is glad to be here and help with Masses and Confessions and see friends. He will be away on Mission trips two weekends in July. I don’t know the rest of his schedule for the summer; and, he probably doesn’t have it yet either.
Thursday celebrated the 233rd anniversary of the Declaraon of Independence. Only one of the 56 signers of the Declaraon of Independence is idenfied as a Catholic. He was Charles Carroll, a member of the famous Maryland family of John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in this country.
Charles Carroll was the last survivor of the signers of the Declaraon. He died in 1832 at the age of 95. As the story goes, when the Holy See wanted to create a diocese out of the newly formed United States, which probably had only 10,000 Catholics out of a populaon of just over three million, a Church representave approached Benjamin Franklin in Paris and asked who the new naons leaders would like to appoint as Bishop. Kings appoinng Bishops was common in Europe.
Franklin said that it was not the government’s business and the Church should choose a bishop.
He told them that his friend, Charles Carroll had a cousin who was a priest and living in Belgium, Fr.
John Carroll, SJ. The Holy See sent Fr. John Carroll a le7er appoinng him the first Bishop of
Balmore which covered the enre United States.
Father John Retar
A key theme of today's Gospel and last Sunday's Gospel is discipleshipͶits challenges, its
difficules, and its rewards. Sharing in the mission of Jesus is difficult, but everyone is called to do it, not just some professionals trained for ministry. Even for us today, the harvest is plen7ful. We should pray to the master of the harvest to send out workers for his harvest.
IN MEMORIAM…
Please remember all the faithfully departed in your prayers, especially Vicky Faga.
May they rest in the peace of Christ for all eternity.
F AMIL Y PE R SPE CT IV ES
As we celebrate our freedom, let us give thanks to God for our abundant blessings and remember God’s Kingdom is being established on earth and we are to be part of this. We are sent into the world like the seventy Ͳtwo were sent in the Gospel. Jesus wants us to bring the good news to our families, neighborhoods, workplaces Ͳ wherever we go! “The work of handing on the faith to children, in the sense of facilita#ng its growth, helps the whole family in its evangelizing mission. It naturally begins to spread the faith all around them, even outside of the family.” Ͳ Pope Francis, The Joy of Love #289

Spend Time with Our Lord in
Eucharistic Adoration
Every Tuesday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Thursday evenings at 7:30 - 8:30 pm
During Eucharistic Adoration THINK of our LORD speaking to you and saying…
You do not have to be clever to please me; all you have to do is want to love me. Just speak to me as you would to anyone of whom you are very fond.
Are there any people you want to pray for? Say their names to me and ask of me as much as you like. I am generous and know all their needs. But I want you to show your love for them and me by trusting me to do what I know is best.
Tell me about the poor, the sick, and the sinners, and if you have lost the friendship or affection of anyone, tell me about that, too.
Is there anything you want for your soul? If you like, you can write out a list of all your needs, and come and read it to me.
Just tell me about your pride, your touchiness, self-centeredness, meanness and laziness. Do not be ashamed; there are many saints in heaven who had the same faults as you; they prayed to me, and little by little, their faults were corrected.
Do not hesitate to ask me for blessings for the body and mind; for health, memory, success. I can give everything, and I always do everything needed to make souls holier.
What is it you want today: Tell me, for I long to do you good. What are your plans? Tell me about them.
Is there anyone you want to please? What do you want to do for them?
And don’t you want to do anything for me? Don’t you want to do a little good for the souls of your friends who perhaps have forgotten me? Tell me about your failures, and I will show you the cause of them. What are your worries? Who caused you pain? Tell me all about it, and add that you will forgive and forget, and I will bless you.
Are you afraid of anything? Have you any tormenting, unreasonable fears? Trust yourself to me. I am here. I see everything. I will not leave you.
Have you no joys to tell me about? Why do you not share your happiness with me? Tell me what happened since yesterday to cheer and comfort you. Whatever it was, however big, however small, I prepared it. Show me your gratitude and thank me.
Are you determined to run into no temptations? Have you made up your mind about bad books and bad friendships? They disturb the peace of your soul. Are you going to be kind to that one who has hurt you?
Well, go along now. Get on back with your work. Try and be quieter, humbler, more submissive, kinder;
and come back soon and bring me a more devoted heart. Tomorrow I shall have more blessings for you.
