GLOBALY HIGHLIGHTS

 As of 19-March-2020, there were 191,127 total confirmed cases and 7,807 total deaths with a resultant increase of 6.7% and 5.1%

respectively in the last 24 hours)

 159 countries/Regions are affected of which 35 are in Africa region including Ethiopia

 WHO is supporting countries with surveillance, diagnostics and treatment of COVID-19 cases

 WHO continues to recommend isolating, testing and treating every confirmed case and tracing every contact must be the backbone of response in every country

WHAT IS THE SITUATION IN ETHIOPIA

 Total number of reported confirmed cases is 6

 Cumulative number of suspected cases is 119

 Cumulative number of registered contacts is 241

 Cumulative number of alerts/rumors is 242

 All UN entities are requested to activate their business continuity plans

The first case of Coronavirus in the African continent was report- ed in Egypt on 14-February-2020.

It has since affected 35 (61.8%) countries with a total number of 633 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths with a case fatality rate of 2.7% as of 19-March-2020. The deaths were recorded in Egypt (06), Algeria (07), Morocco (02) Burkina Faso (01) and Su- dan (01)

Take preventive measures extremely seriously

Avoid hand-shake and hugging at all times

Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use an alco- hol base hand rub

Get information from reliable sources only

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 are: Fever, Cough, Sore throat, Difficulty in breathing and other flu like symptoms such as running nose and sneezing
