Mechanics & Industry

An International Journal on Mechanical Sciences and Engineering Applications www.mechanics-industry.org

It is my pleasure to present the most recent evolutions of Mechanics & Industry (M&I), a journal from AFM, edited by EDP Sciences and now distributed by Cambridge University Press. The journal, indexed since 2008 in the ISI’s Science Citation Index Expanded, has a new subtitle to highlight its status and aims: An International Journal on Mechanical Sciences and Engineering Applications.

The purpose of the journal is to provide to an international audience a medium for rapid dissemination of orig- inal results in the realm of theoretical, numerical, and experimental investigations. Because of the omnipresence of mechanics, the acceptable publication topics not only will encompass mechanical systems, but also related themes in other sciences like physics and biology. However, the articles have to be related mainly to fluid and solid mechanics as they apply across the fields of science in mechanical, civil, chemical or bioengineering. Specialty fields publications in the areas of heat and mass transfer, combustion, material sciences (composites, intelligent materials), solid-fluid interaction, biomechanics, to name a few, are most welcomed. The objective of M&I is to be world-wide recognized as a high quality publication which disseminates state of the art knowledge and scientific breakthroughs. Papers issued from research activities carried out through academic-industry collaborations are especially desirable.

The journal publishes six annual issues containing sixty full-length original contributions, review articles and technical briefs. An international editorial board of associate editors handles the peer-review of each research paper.

Its quarterly meetings help to manage the evolution and publication of the journal as well as its policies. The number of submissions in 2009 was 119, 131 in 2010, and 131 in 2011, showing an accepted paper ratio of 50%. In 2012, only papers written in English will be accepted for submission.

Thus, henceforward, M&I will continue to be dedicated to the dissemination of original research results to the international academic and industrial communities, in order to provide a comprehensive and large overview of R&D in the field of mechanics, and contribute in this way to the conquest of the scientific and technological challenges of the future.
