SEBD 2018 - 26th Italian Symposium on Advanced Database Systems

Preface

This volume collects the papers selected for presentation at the twenty-sixth Ital- ian Symposium on Advanced Database Systems (SEBD 2018), held at Castel- laneta Marina (Taranto), Italy, at Ethra Reserve from the 24th to the 27th of June 2018.

Databases and, more generally, data management is a well-established key player in the digital transformation we are witnessing nowadays. This reflects in the papers presented in this volume whose topics span from Data mining and knowledge Discovery to Information Extraction to Semistructured Data Man- agement and Intelligent Web Information Systems, just to cite a few. Each submission was evaluated by three independent referees. Besides regular paper, the program also featured three invited talks by Amr El Abbadi, Wenfei Fan, and Michel Dumontier, and an invited tutorial given by Massimo Bartoletti. Fi- nally, SEBD 2018 hosted a session devoted to the discussion of ongoing research activities form Ph.D. students.

The wide spectrum of database-related topics addressed in the volume is a clear clue of the vibrant activity in the Italian scientific community, and we hope that SEBD will continue to be a gathering forum where people from academic and industrial environments meet, discuss and exchange experiences on the theory and practice of information storage and management.

We wish to thank all the authors who submitted papers and all the confer- ence participants. We are also grateful to the members of the Program Com- mittee and the external referees for their thorough work in reviewing submitted contributions with expertise and patience, and the members of the SEBD Steer- ing Committee.

We gratefully acknowledge CC ICT-SUD for its sponsorship and the patron- age of Politecnico di Bari, Universit`a degli studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, and Universit`a degli studi di Milano Bicocca.
