R6sume. - Une Ctude detailit% par effet Mossbauer de 17oYb dilu6 dans CaFz a Bte rkalisCe tant sur des absorbeurs de CaFz(17oYb) que sur des sources de CaFz(l7oTm). Divers renseignements ont bte obtenus sur les Ctats de valence de l'ytterbium, les proportions relatives des differents sites, les parametres hyperfins, la relaxation de Yb3+, les effets de la concentration et ceux de la dkcrois- sance radioactive, etc...

Les deplacements isomeriques de Yb3+ et Ybz+ en site cubique dans CaFz ne different que de 0,29 f 0,10 mm/s ; une determination prkcise du facteur nuclkaire g(l70Yb, 84 keV)= 0,334 f 0,002 a 6t6 dkduite de la separation hyperfine en relaxation lente de Yb3+ en site cubique.

Abstract. - A detailed Mossbauer study of 170Yb diluted in CaFz has been performed on CaFz(170Yb) absorbers as well as on m ( l 7 o T m ) sources. Various informations have been - obtained about valency states of Ytterbium, relative proportions of the different sites, hyperfine parameters, relaxation of Yb3+, concentration and after decay effects, etc ...

The isomer shifts of Yb3+ and Yb2+ in cubic sites in CaFz differ only by 0.29 i 0.10 mm/s ; an accurate determination of the nuclear factor, g(l70Yb, 84 keV) = 0.334 + 0.002, has been derived from the slow relaxation hf splitting of cubic Yb3+.

R6sumB. - Les parametres hyperfins et le taux de relaxation de Yb3f dans YbES ont Btk deduits des spectres Mossbauer entre 1,3 et 30 K. Les facteurs d'kcran R z 0,24 et oz -- 0,61 ont et6 tires des expkriences. La variation thermique du taux de relaxation, observke entre 8 et 25 K, montre l'existence d'un terme exponentiel supplkmentaire s'ajoutant aux processus Orbach et Raman antk- rieurement observks, et qui est attribue B un mode optique de phonons.

Abstract. - The hf parameters and the relaxation rate of Yb3+ in YbES are deduced from the 170Yb Mossbauer spectra between 1.3 and 30 K. The shielding factors R - 0.24 and 0 2 - 0.61

are derived from the experiments. The thermal variation of the relaxation rate observed between 8 and 25 K shows an additional exponential term to the previously observed Orbach and Raman processes, which is attributed to an optical mode of phonons.
