Title: Didactic Approach of sportsmen to Sport Heritage –– IES Sánchez Cantón / CGTD Pontevedra (Spain)

Organizers: SPANISH NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF ICOMOS (CNE) and Secondary School (IES) “Sánchez Cantón” – CGTD of Pontevedra, Mª Esther del Castillo who is a Member of the CNE and Teacher of History, and students of Geography of the second course of Bachillerato at the same School.

Presentation:

On occasion of the Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in the next month of August ICOMOS has decided to devote its International Day of Heritage to the Sports.

The ICOMOS CNE wishes to participate by organizing a didactic activity which may contribute to spread knowledge of the History of Sports among a group specially linked to this field as it is the case of the students of the Sánchez Cantón Institute that is ascribed to the Galician Centre of Sportive Technical Advance.

The activity shall consist on the elaboration of publicity’s poster of the event and a power point presentation on the history of the sports and the historic heritage in this field. This work will be carried out by a group of alums under the direction of the above teacher by means of gathering images obtained from different webs which will be illustrated by the necessary and most adequate texts for their understanding.

This project will also include as an appendix some pictures of two architectonic works devoted to the practice of sports of the outstanding architect Alejandro de la Sota from Pontevedra, who is considered as one of the most important Spanish architects of the second half of the 20th century. One of these works, the Municipal Pavilion of Pontevedra, is located in this city and still can be seen from our center. The second one, built in Madrid, is the Gymnasium of the “Colegio Maravillas” and is estimated as the most representative of de la Sota works.

The result of the referred presentation will be shown to the students in the different classrooms at the time devoted to history or social sciences. A questionnaire shall be distributed in order to know the degree of interest that it has awoken in them.

Just on 28 April 2016 an exhibit of commented images of the history of sport and its artistic and heritage representations in different cultures will be open at the virtual classroom of the centre. All users of this way of communication will be able to visit this exhibit.
