created in 2000, bringing together 17 members:

• the Ministries in charge of Research, the Environment,

Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and Industry

• eight public research organisations: Cemagref, Cirad, CNRS,

Ifremer, Inra, Inserm, IRD, MNHN;

• Non-governmental organisations (France Nature Environnement,

WWF France) and interprofessional associations (Assinsel, Organibio).

• IFB relies on a Scientific Committee of thirty members

from a wide range of disciplines (genetics, ecology, physiology, economics, geography, philosophy, history...)

• Activities are conducted by a team made available by IFB members.

The IFB

research on biodiversity at the national, European and

international levels

Technical and Technological Advice),

National nodal point for GBIF

(Global Biodiversity Information Facility),

Coordinating body of an Eranet

(European research area network) on biodiversity research (eurobiodiversa).

Activities

A few examples

• IFB publishes calls for research proposals,

• Sets up working groups on specific subjects,

• Publishes executive summaries, prospective analyses,

runs symposiums and seminaries…

• The « IFB days »

promote interdisciplinary dialogue and the development of scientific projects.

• The World

Biodiversity Day (on 22d May) is an opportunity for IFB to organize encounters between scientists, elected officials, associations and biodiversity managers; • IFB financed 95 research projects following calls for research proposals,

for a total amount of 3.6 million.

• IFB drafted the strategy

for biodiversity research for the next 20 years, as part of the national sustainable development strategy, on request by the Ministries for Research and of the Environment.

• It co-organised the

international Conference: « Biodiversity: science and governance »

The methodology used to assess the impact of climate change on biodiversity has evolved since our last publi- cation (CDC Biodiversité, 2017) for we have been working towards

• The development of a set of globally harmonized accounting principles underlying biodiversity impact assessment and disclosure.. • Not reserved to one specific impact

The proposed suite of EBVs comprises abundance, allelic diversity, body mass index, ecosystem heterogeneity, phenology, range dynamics, size at first reproduction, and survival

In an informative example, Rockström i reinforces his initial claims arguing that the collapse of the Newfoundland cod fi shery in 1989 represents ‘ a very precise tipping point ’

An Ecosystem- based management strategy acknowledges the complexity of ecosystems and in particular: (i) the need to take into account both the structural aspects (e.g.,
