Abstract:

Wear is the removal of material from a surface by very different mechanisms such as abrasion, erosion, fatigue and corrosion. In the industrial sector, the cost of repairing used parts is very high; the solution in this condition is to select an anti wear resistant material before choosing an anti material wear, it is primordial to identify the type of wear. the conditions of use, in industrial domain, are so complex that the choice of the material is difficult.

Usually the choice of material depends on several factors such as high hardness, high abrasion resistance and low friction coefficient. Heat treatments are proposed in order to improve these properties. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of heat treatment on the structure and abrasion resistance behavior of A105N steel.

Austenitization of the studied samples was carried out at 900 °C for 2 h followed by a water cooling. Experimental techniques such SEM and abrasion wear tests are used to highlight the effect of heat treatment on the wear resistance of the studied steel.

The microstructural characterization shows that in the as cast state, the structure is composed of ferrite and perlite. After tempering, the structure is composed of perlite and bainite. A well net difference is observed, between the as cast and heat-treated samples abrasion weigh losses. This difference is assessed at 50º.
